Profile 8x12

Hello!

My name is Nikka and I am the Owner/Founder of Dare to Care Health.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist who has been working directly in the mental health field since 2020. I was that person out in the world not knowing what path I wanted to take in life or how to navigate the big questions when a global pandemic broke the very foundation I know many people relied on for work, family, health, and so much more.

Working in any care field is challenging enough on it's own, and the importance of being able to offer a space for people to process, vent, and build towards the person they see themselves being is so important! I created Dare to Care Health for that very reason. It takes courage to care, and I want to provide an opportunity for people to take those first steps to feel heard, understood, and not pushed aside. Especially those of us working to support others and being told or believing we don't need or shouldn't need support ourselves.

What will it look like?

Therapy can look different from person to person. With me, I help empower my clients and challenge them to make the changes they want to see. Striving to create a supportive environment in sessions, clients tend to leave with a sense of direction, excitement, and readiness to take action.

My Approach

I work to integrate something a lot of folks don't, humour! A lot of my clients have mentioned how serious, or downright unrelatable other therapists they have worked with have been with them. I'm certainly not here to laugh at your pain, but I am here to help you navigate those struggles and have it feel more personal along the way (nothing is worse than talking to brick wall)!

If you are searching for someone who not only listens to what is impacting you, but someone who HEARS you, challenges you, and supports you on taking the steps you want to make in order to life the life you want to live - then I may just be the therapist you're looking for.

Q & A

Iceberg Image 2

What is the best Halloween costume you ever wore?

Maybe not the best, but I wore the same Halloween costume for at least 4 years... A giant lady bug. It was truly a masterpiece that deserved to be worn more than once (or so I thought at the age of 4).

What is your guilty pleasure?

Reality TV and I have an interesting relationship. I hate watching it and it loves pulling me in to its dramatic ridiculousness. It's perfect to unwind and turn my brain off!

What is on your bucket list?

Be alive for a technological boom...check. Live through a recession...also check. Survive a global pandemic and other worldly disasters. Huh... Maybe skydive?

What is your earliest memory?

I remember being at my aunt's house for one of my birthdays when I was young. My mom and I ate salt & vinegar chips, I got a snowman cake, and thought my cousins' Christmas presents were my birthday presents.

How do you like to unwind?

I could be beach side, in the woods, anywhere in nature and be content. On a daily basis, I unwind with video games  (Sims and Stardew count just as much as Rocket League!), and spending time with my loved ones.

If you could make one rule for everyone in the world to follow, what would it be?

Whenever an animal stretches people have to stop and say "Big stretch!". Why? It's both hilarious and adorable. I rest my case.
