Couples Therapy in Ontario (Virtual)
Every relationship goes through challenges, and working through them together takes care, patience, and the right kind of support. We work with couples to explore challenges with care and respect, providing a neutral, non-judgmental space where both partners feel heard. Dare to Care Health offers virtual couples therapy for partners across Ontario, delivered by Nikka, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP). Together, we'll look at the patterns shaping your relationship and build toward healthier communication and a stronger emotional connection.

What is Couples Therapy?
Couples therapy supports communication difficulties, conflict resolution, intimacy concerns, trust issues, parenting differences, and relationship transitions. In this space, both partners can talk openly, with a Registered Psychotherapist guiding the conversation so it stays constructive rather than turning into another argument. The focus is on understanding the interaction patterns that keep showing up between you, not assigning blame or deciding who's "right." In fact, the relationship itself is treated as the client, not either partner individually. From there, sessions work to develop healthier communication and open the door to a stronger emotional connection, using collaborative, evidence-based interventions tailored to your specific goals as a couple.
Who is Couples Therapy For?
Couples therapy can help if you and your partner are noticing things like:

-
Communication that turns into arguments, shutting down, or going in circles
-
Ongoing conflict that doesn't seem to get resolved, no matter how you approach it
-
Concerns around intimacy or physical and emotional closeness
-
Trust issues, whether from infidelity or another relationship rupture
-
Differences in parenting approaches or expectations
-
A relationship transition, like a move, new baby, or blended family
If any of this sounds familiar, you don't need to be in crisis to reach out. Couples at every stage can benefit from having a supportive space to work things through.
Our Approach
The relationship is treated as the client, not the individuals in the room. This shifts the focus away from who's at fault and toward the patterns, needs, and dynamics that shape how you connect and communicate. Sessions draw on collaborative, evidence-based relationship interventions, tailored to what you and your partner want out of therapy, whether that's resolving a specific conflict or building a deeper connection over time. The goal is practical progress you can both feel, not just a space to vent.
How Virtual Sessions Work
All sessions take place virtually over a secure video platform, so you and your partner can join from anywhere in Ontario, together or from separate locations if needed. Couples sessions typically run 50 minutes or 75 minutes. Your first appointment is about getting comfortable as a pair: we'll talk through what's bringing you in, what you've each already tried, and what you're both hoping therapy can help with. From there, we build a plan together at a pace that works for your relationship.
Why Choose Dare to Care Health
Nikka is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), a member of the CRPO and CCPA, and has worked directly in mental health since 2020, with additional training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy. Her approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and refreshingly human, with room for humour along the way, because therapy shouldn't feel like talking to a brick wall. Dare to Care Health takes a holistic, client-centered approach that respects every kind of relationship, including non-traditional and non-monogamous partnerships. With virtual sessions available across Ontario and a genuinely non-judgmental space for both partners to be heard, Dare to Care Health is built for couples who want to feel more connected, not just get through the next fight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does insurance or OHIP cover couples therapy in Ontario?
OHIP does not typically cover psychotherapy services provided outside of hospital or specific publicly funded programs. However, many extended health insurance plans cover Registered Psychotherapists (RPs). Check with your provider to confirm your coverage and reimbursement details, as some plans differ for couples versus individual sessions.
Is virtual couples therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes. Research consistently shows that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for couples, while making it easier to coordinate schedules and attend from the same or different locations.
Is virtual therapy with Dare to Care Health private and confidential?
Yes. Sessions are held on a secure, encrypted video platform, and confidentiality is maintained in line with the standards set by the CRPO. You can find full details in our Privacy Policy.
Will the therapist take sides?
No. The relationship is treated as the client, not either individual partner. Sessions focus on understanding the patterns between you rather than assigning blame, so both partners can expect a neutral, non-judgmental space.
