Sex Therapy in Ontario
Concerns about intimacy, desire, or sexual wellbeing can be hard to talk about, even with the people closest to you. But these concerns are common, and they deserve the same care and attention as any other part of your wellbeing. Dare to Care Health offers virtual sex therapy for individuals and couples across Ontario, delivered by Nikka, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with training in Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy. In an inclusive, sex-positive space free from judgment, we'll work through what's affecting your intimacy and sexual wellbeing, one step at a time, at whatever pace feels right for you.

What is Sex Therapy?
Sex therapy supports concerns related to intimacy, both with yourself and with partners, desire discrepancies, sexual functioning, communication, identity, and relationship satisfaction. It addresses both the emotional and relational factors that can influence sexual wellbeing, not just the physical side of things. Sessions create a safe environment where you can discuss sensitive topics openly, without judgment, while receiving evidence-based therapeutic support. Rather than diving straight into the hardest material, therapy takes a one-step-at-a-time approach, working at your pace so the process feels manageable rather than overwhelming. Sex therapy can be offered to individuals or couples, depending on what you need.
Who is Sex Therapy for?
Sex therapy can help if you or your relationship are navigating things like:
-
Difficulty feeling present or comfortable with intimacy, alone or with a partner
-
Differences in desire or sex drive between partners
-
Concerns about sexual functioning or performance
-
Trouble communicating needs, boundaries, or preferences around sex
-
Questions or concerns related to sexual identity or orientation
-
A general sense that intimacy issues are affecting relationship satisfaction
If any of this sounds familiar, you don't need to have the right words for it yet. You just need to be ready to talk, in a space that won't judge you for it.
Our Approach
This work is inclusive, sex-positive, built to be a genuinely safe space for people of all backgrounds, identities, and relationship structures, including non-traditional and non-monogamous partnerships. Sensitive topics are met with openness, not discomfort. Therapy moves one step at a time, working at your pace rather than pushing you toward material before you're ready. Support draws on evidence-based approaches, including Integrative Sex and Couples Therapy, so the conversations you have in session translate into real change in how you experience intimacy and connection.
How Virtual Sessions Work
All sessions take place virtually over a secure video platform, so you (or you and your partner) can join from anywhere in Ontario. No commute, no waiting room. Individual sessions typically run for 50 minutes or 75 minutes, with couple sessions available as well. Your first appointment is about getting comfortable: we'll talk about what's bringing you in, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping therapy can help with. From there, we build a plan together at a pace that works for you. Booking is simple: choose a time that works through our online booking page, and you'll receive everything you need to join your session ahead of time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does insurance or OHIP cover sex therapy in Ontario?
OHIP does not typically cover psychotherapy services provided outside of hospital or specific publicly funded programs. However, many extended health insurance plans cover Registered Psychotherapists (RPs). Check with your provider to confirm your coverage and reimbursement details.
Is virtual sex therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes. Research consistently shows that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions, and many clients find it easier to open up about sensitive topics from the privacy of their own space.
Is virtual therapy with Dare to Care Health private and confidential?
Yes. Sessions are held on a secure, encrypted video platform, and confidentiality is maintained in line with the standards set by the CRPO. You can find full details in our Privacy Policy.
Do I need a partner to start sex therapy?
No. Sex therapy can be offered to individuals or couples, depending on what you need. Many people start on their own to work through personal concerns before ever bringing a partner into session.
