Therapy for Healthcare Workers in Ontario

Support for the people who spend their days caring for everyone else. Dare to Care Health offers virtual therapy for nurses, doctors, and other healthcare workers across Ontario, led by Nikka, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP). This is not generic "work stress" support. It's built around what the job actually asks of you.

Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Moral Distress

Healthcare work is not just busy or demanding. It's built on exposure to suffering, on high-stakes decisions, and on caring for people at their worst moments, shift after shift. You might carry compassion fatigue, or burnout that rest doesn't fix. You might feel moral distress: knowing what a patient needs, and not being able to give it because of staffing, policy, or time. Grief can build up too, from repeated loss that never gets fully processed between one shift and the next. Difficult patient and family interactions stay with you. So does the pressure of feeling responsible for outcomes that were never fully in your control. And at the end of a shift, it can be hard to leave any of it behind.

Support for More Than Work Stress

This kind of therapy can help with things like:

  • Compassion fatigue

  • Burnout

  • Moral distress

  • Grief and repeated loss

  • Difficult patient or family interactions

  • Workplace and staffing pressures

  • Exposure to suffering

  • Shift work and its toll on sleep and routine

  • Questions about your professional identity

  • Feeling responsible for patient outcomes

  • Difficulty leaving work emotionally at the end of a shift

If any of this sounds familiar, you don't need to be in crisis to reach out. You just need to be ready to talk.

Our Approach

You are not a hero who has to keep giving without needing anything back. That framing sounds like praise, but it quietly tells healthcare workers to keep pouring from an empty cup. Dare to Care Health doesn't work that way. Sessions give you a space to make sense of what the job asks of you, reconnect with the parts of yourself outside of work, and build on the strengths you already bring to it. You don't have to perform, explain everything, or hold it all together here. You don't have to do this alone.

What Sessions Look Like

Sessions take place virtually, over video or by telephone, so you can join from anywhere in Ontario. There's no commute and no waiting room, which matters when your own schedule is built around other people's. Sessions typically run 50 or 75 minutes, with shorter 25-minute check-ins also available. Your first appointment is simple: we talk through what's bringing you in, and what you're hoping for. From there, we build a plan together, at a pace that works around your shifts. Booking takes a minute through our online booking page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does OHIP or insurance cover this?

OHIP doesn't typically cover psychotherapy outside of hospital or specific public programs. Many extended health plans, including those through healthcare employers and unions, do cover Registered Psychotherapists. Check with your provider to confirm.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person, given shift work?

Yes. Research shows virtual therapy works just as well as in-person sessions. For irregular hours and rotating shifts, virtual sessions are often the only realistic way to fit therapy in.

Is this confidential?

Yes. Sessions are held on a secure, encrypted platform, and confidentiality follows the standards set by the CRPO. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Do I need to be in crisis, or dealing with a specific incident, to start?

No. Many healthcare workers start therapy simply because the accumulated weight of the job has caught up with them. You don't need a single defining event to justify reaching out.
