Trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Therapy in Ontario (Virtual)

Trauma can come from many places: work, relationships, loss, or events that were out of your control. These experiences can stay with you, showing up as strong emotions, memories, or body reactions that are hard to explain. Dare to Care Health offers virtual trauma and PTSD therapy for individuals across Ontario, delivered by Nikka, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP). We understand how important it is to feel safe and respected while you heal. Together, we'll work to make sense of what happened, reconnect with your body, and rebuild trust in yourself and others. Healing takes time, but you don't have to do it alone. â€‹

What is Trauma & PTSD Therapy?

Trauma and PTSD therapy supports individuals recovering from childhood trauma, complex trauma, abuse, accidents, medical trauma, TBI or head injuries, and other traumatic experiences, including people who deal with trauma regularly as part of their work. It's a space to process difficult or overwhelming experiences at a pace that feels safe, and to reduce the hold those experiences have on your day-to-day life. Using a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes emotional safety and your readiness, sessions help you process trauma while reducing overwhelm and increasing emotional regulation. Healing doesn't require you to relive traumatic experiences before you're ready. We work with you, not against you, at every step.

Who is Trauma & PTSD Therapy For?

This kind of therapy can help if you're noticing things like:

  • A history of childhood trauma, complex trauma, or abuse

  • Trauma related to an accident, medical event, TBI, or head injury

  • Flashbacks, intrusive memories, or nightmares related to a difficult experience

  • Feeling on edge, easily startled, or constantly on guard

  • Numbness, disconnection, or difficulty trusting others

  • Regular exposure to trauma through work, such as first responder or veteran experience

If any of this sounds familiar, you don't need a diagnosis or a "good enough" reason to reach out. You just need to be ready to talk, at whatever pace feels right for you.

Dare to Care Health Approach

Trust, pacing, and empowerment sit at the centre of this work. Every step is designed to build a sense of safety, so processing trauma never feels forced or rushed. You stay in the driver's seat throughout, deciding what to work on and when, with support to help you feel steadier along the way. This looks like collaborative goal-setting, gentle check-ins on readiness before diving into harder material, and practical tools for regulation that you can lean on both in and outside of session, so growing your resilience feels sustainable rather than overwhelming.

How Virtual Sessions Work

All sessions take place virtually over a secure video platform or telephone, so you can join from anywhere in Ontario. No commute, no waiting room. Sessions typically run 50 minutes or 75 minutes, with shorter 25-minute check-ins also available. Your first appointment is about getting comfortable and building safety: we'll talk through what's bringing you in, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping therapy can help with. From there, we build a plan together at a pace that works for you, and nothing is rushed. Booking is simple: choose a time that works through our online booking page, and you'll receive everything you need to join your session ahead of time.

Why Choose Dare to Care Health

Nikka is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), a member of the CRPO and CCPA, and has worked directly in mental health since 2020. Her approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, collaborative, and refreshingly human, with room for humour along the way, because therapy shouldn't feel like talking to a brick wall. Dare to Care Health takes a holistic, client-centered approach, meeting you where you are rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions. With virtual sessions available across Ontario, training in trauma-informed approaches like EFT and Internal Family Systems, and experience supporting first responders and veterans, Dare to Care Health is built for people who are ready to heal, at their own pace and on their own terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does insurance or OHIP cover trauma or PTSD therapy in Ontario?

OHIP does not typically cover psychotherapy services provided outside of hospital or specific publicly funded programs. However, many extended health insurance plans cover Registered Psychotherapists (RPs). Check with your provider to confirm your coverage and reimbursement details.

Is virtual trauma therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes. Research consistently shows that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for trauma and PTSD, while offering more privacy and control, which can feel especially important when working through sensitive experiences.

Is virtual therapy with Dare to Care Health private and confidential?

Yes. Sessions are held on a secure, encrypted video platform or telephone, and confidentiality is maintained in line with the standards set by the CRPO. You can find full details in our Privacy Policy

Will I have to talk about what happened right away?

No. You are always in control of what, and when, you share. The first sessions focus on building safety and trust, and any deeper work only happens at a pace that feels right for you.

How soon can I book my first appointment?

You can book a free 15-minute consultation directly through our online booking page, often within the same week. This short call is a chance to ask questions and see if it feels like the right fit before booking a full session.
