Therapy for Caregivers in Ontario
Caregivers give a lot. Often, they give more than they get back. Over time, this takes a price. Dare to Care Health offers virtual therapy for caregivers across Ontario, led by Nikka, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP). This includes parents and guardians, teachers, doctors, nurses, humane society staff, and anyone whose role centres on caring for others.

What Caregiving Can Take From You
Caregiving asks a lot of you, and most of it goes unnoticed. You might feel stretched thin or worn down in a way that rest doesn't fix. That's compassion fatigue, and it's common among people who give care for a living or a lifetime. You might feel guilty for setting a boundary, or responsible for everyone else's wellbeing but your own. You might notice your role at home or at work has shifted, or that parts of your identity outside of caregiving have quietly faded. Asking for help can feel harder than giving it. And grief can show up in caregiving too, even when no one has died: the loss of who someone used to be, or the life you thought you'd have. None of this makes you weak. It makes you a person who has been carrying a lot for a long time.
Our Approach
You can care deeply about someone and still need care yourself. This is the starting point for every session. Caregiving is not treated as a burden here, and you are not treated as helpless. Your experience is valid, and it matters. Sessions give you a space to make sense of what you're carrying, reconnect with the parts of yourself outside the caregiver role, and build on the strengths you already have. You don't have to perform, explain everything, or hold it all together here. You don't have to do this alone.
What Sessions Look Like
Sessions take place virtually, over video or by telephone, so you can join from anywhere in Ontario. There's no commute and no waiting room. Sessions typically run 50 or 75 minutes, with shorter 25-minute check-ins also available. Your first appointment is simple: we talk through what's bringing you in, and what you're hoping for. From there, we build a plan together, at a pace that works for your life. Booking takes a minute through our online booking page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does OHIP or insurance cover this?
OHIP doesn't typically cover psychotherapy outside of hospital or specific public programs. Many extended health plans do cover Registered Psychotherapists. Check with your provider to confirm.
Do I need to be a family caregiver, or does this cover my job too?
Both. This applies to anyone whose role centres on caring for others: parents and guardians, teachers, doctors, nurses, humane society staff, and family caregivers alike.
Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person?
Yes. Research shows virtual therapy works just as well as in-person sessions. For caregivers with little time to spare, it's often easier to fit into a full schedule.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Sessions are held on a secure, encrypted platform, and confidentiality follows the standards set by the CRPO. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
